welcome to follow the tour from Germany to planned Kirgistan with a ride back from Georgia
Today visiting the ancient city of Efesus which head already before Christ 250000 residents and was super rich and developed. Very impresive as Secelik the city beside with its St John chuch as one of the key churches of the crusaders
We started again with some pleasurable offroad track before we after a defect and some repair due to a soaked in raincoat into the chain drive headed south accros the marmara sea towards Efesus
allday enjoying the possibility to be on the TET and returing later to the camp ground. Some ares where terribly muddy so we got stuck but in general a pleasurable ride. In a little village we stopped we made some friend was a litttle tricky even with all translation tools but in general a nice time together
as we are completely off season it was difficult to get an approprriate accomodation so we decide to stay on a 2.5€ campground per tent - and it was maybe only a 1.8€ camp ground. But the food was good we got and the resting was well
after having the bike finally fixed to get a normal operation again as an extensive team work excercise we started with a nice offroad path before crossing into Turkey for our first night on a camp ground
after a greek breakfast we rode up again to metreora to get a view during sunshine before making our way eastwards. Druning the day we had our first meal at the beach in the sun and where enjoying this getting into the mood for the mediteranean
We went up in the morning with a Taxi to the Vaarlam Monatry and visitied her in detail. Later we took the decision to walk to the main Meteora Monastry and to the take the hiking trail down to city of Kevalla
Despite still facing heavy rain we decided to head towards Meteora to visit the Monastries there. The idea was the we cross the coutry side and have beautiful views towards our target. Reality was not to phantastic as we were crossing at 1600m height Greek Mountain in the area still having snow at 4°C in very heavy rain. The motivation level dropped significantly and we where of the believe that we are at the moment at a wrong place. Learning that the flooding in Italy was extreme it relativized this. But finally we decided to stay a day longer and visit the monestaies the next day with hopefully some visibility.
Visiting the Vikos Gorge claiming to be the largest in Europe. Unfortuntelly a ride in the rain and some mud in the offroad section we found. We walked to the view point and found a really stunning gorge in the clouds.
We spent the day with a trip around Ioannina and the vikos Gorge. Back to Ioannina we walked the Citadell and the visited the thomb of Ali Pascha residing her till 1822. The evening showed the same patter - it was raining.
As the weather wasnt promising at all we decided to trável to Ioannina and to stay there for two days. Ioanninan is a city located at a large lake in the north of greece and a local center. The city welcomed us with a beautil full old stone house hotel right in the city center. From there we wen tout for dinner and a walk along the promenade. The city was full of people as there was a bank holiday
After a 330km ride on the Autostrada we arrived the coast and the Ancona Port to take us to Greece. As the change of the day we decided due to bad weather that we stay two days in Ioannina as its going to rain every single day heavily. Maybe we will have a chance to take some local trips. The ferry left almost in time with an hour delay and so we expect to touch greek grounf tomorrow by 10:00
We stayed the day walking Venice and visting the location Marco Polo lived at. This just as an appropriate start for the silk road travel. Venice was as usual crowded at the main location but as usual wonderful in the calmer areas. In the evening we made friend with a new arriver on his tractor driving from Germany via Istanbul to finally planned Nepal. The vintage tractor with two trailers - one to sleep and one with a beer bar was a great show
After starting in heavy rain we passed Fernpass and Reschenpass in terrible rain at 5°C before parting with the cooleages me going north again to get spare and fix the bike in Sterzing. Later making it down to Venice as a result of a very very long day
The first trip was to meet the rest of the group in Nesselwang to reunion and drive from there to Venice on where we wanted to leanr something about Marco Polo as well as to start our trip from original location he started.
The forecast was nice for the day and the bike ready prepared and after a long Tetris like puzzeling i found way to get all the luggage with me :-)
after the desicion taken to start has been taken the preparation can start. As easy to image many little things are required to be thought about and to be executed - so the first thing is a plan. Still in between leaving some time for local trips in Switzerland
